Our story

Let us introduce ourselves

We are Sion & Mariëtte Schild. In December 2025, we emigrated from the Netherlands to Les Galettes. This is a small hamlet that belongs to the pleasant village of Rezay and is located in the former province of Berry, a region that was so beloved by the French writer George Sand, friend of composer-pianist Chopin (19th century).

We are the proud owners of a beautiful authentic farmhouse with a swimming pool and charming chambres d’hôtes, originally started by Bart, Loes and Amber.

We are continuing in the same way as they did and with the same warm heart!

Les Galettes is located in a beautiful hilly, green and non-touristy area in the centre of France in the Centre – Val de Loire region and Cher department (18). It is about a 25-minute drive from the A71 motorway.

Why emigrate and why France?

In the Netherlands, we had a nice house, good jobs in fire safety and dentistry, but Maison les Galettes captured our hearts. We surprised our family and friends by deciding to do something completely different, driven by a desire to share. We took a leap of faith, which was exciting, but we had no reason not to do it. It is a step that challenges us and one we believe in.

France is a beautiful country with stunning nature, friendly people, a wonderful climate, charming villages and a beautiful language. Maison les Galettes gives us the feeling of “coming home”. And that is what we want to do: offer you a “welcome home”, where peace, space and comfort are central, so that you can enjoy yourselves without a care in the world!
